1945's duelling Manhattan Projects : security through diversity or dominance ?

Foreign-born scientists and foreign uranium, both from America's Allied partners, may have largely built the death-delivering Atomic Bomb but in 1945 America decided to keep (steal) the assembled blueprints from those Allies and retain them as an American exclusive.

The atomic Manhattan Project was all about security obtained through exclusivity and dominance.

But the penicillium Manhattan Project that gave us life-giving penicillin was all about obtaining security through welcoming in a diverse and inclusive set of allies.

For nothing could be more inclusive and indicative of accepting the widest diversity than in permitting the once-greatly-hated-and-feared fungus molds to pose in front of all the newsreel cameras as Humanity's greatest savior...
